GHS Earns Hospital of Choice Award

9/2/2009

OXFORD, NC (September 2, 2009) – The American Alliance of Healthcare Providers (AAHP) has named Granville Health System as one of the top 100 hospitals in the country in their 2009 Hospital of Choice Awards, announced August 30, 2009.

This award recognizes America's "most customer-friendly hospitals," according to Ric Vincent Parr, President of AAHP. It is “designed to find America's most customer-friendly hospitals based either on an extensive application process, or by a review of a facility's public communication and staff interaction with customers," according to a press release from the alliance.

“We are pleased to be chosen as one of the top hospitals in the nation,” said L. Lee Isley, GHS Chief Executive Officer. “This award recognizes the high level of quality care provided by our dedicated doctors, nurses, and staff to the patients of Granville County and the surrounding areas. As we move forward with the GHS Expansion Plan, Granville Health System will continue to invest further in the hospital, supporting our commitment to deliver new medical programs, technologies and expanded services to the community."

GHS has earned the Hospital of Choice Awards for the summer quarter of 2009 from the alliance for its unparalleled commitment to good citizenship and community service. The selection process involved reviewing public information such as Web sites, news releases and announcements, as well as phone surveys of hospital staff and applications submitted for review. The application focuses on six principal areas of consideration including Standards of Conduct, Performance Management and Improvement, Staff Development and Training, Systems of Communication, Good Citizenship, and Educational and Promotional Material available to consumers. The health system was invited to apply for the award by the alliance.

Past Hospital of Choice Award recipients include The Johns Hopkins Hospital, the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. Granville Health System is the only North Carolina hospital to receive the award in 2009.

"Granville Health System employees do a fantastic job," said L.C. Adcock, Chairman of the GHS Board of Trustees. "This award is proof positive that our health care system’s customer service is second to none and our commitment to the community remains unparalleled.”

The Hospital of Choice Awards celebrates hospitals that go beyond their walls in pursuit of excellence and quality care—organizations that have developed collaborative relationships with not only patients, but with physicians and other health care organizations in the community.
