GHS Focuses on Quality in the Labor and Delivery Department

Granville Health System recently partnered with the WakeMed Health Center for Innovative Learning for a simulated training exercise with the Labor and Delivery team.

Using “Noel”, a high-fidelity birthing simulator, the staff was able to practice caring for shoulder dystocia deliveries as well as births with postpartum hemorrhage. With the help of her technical team, Noel can talk to the labor and delivery staff, she has a pulse and blood pressure and actually delivers a simulation baby.

“This type of simulation exercise helps our staff to anticipate, assess and provide quality care to patients that experience these complications in the labor and delivery department,” said Interim Obstetrics (OB) Manager Wendy Keeton, RN.

The WakeMed Center for Innovative Learning is designed to facilitate realistic multi-disciplinary clinical training and education for all levels of health care providers. Health care providers in the region have the opportunity to practice skills and gain clinical confidence in a controlled, yet realistic environment. This training is part of the GHS OB department’s participation in the NoCVA Prevent OB Adverse Events collaborative in which one of the goals is to decrease the incidence of adverse perinatal events.
