GHS Offers Health Insurance Marketplace Resources

OXFORD, NC (March 17, 2014) – Granville Health System (GHS) wants to remind the community the open enrollment window for the Health Insurance Marketplace is closing on March 31, 2014. GHS has 9 Granville Medical Center Certified Application Counselors available to answer any questions and assist in Marketplace enrollment. Counselors are trained in assisting individuals in proper enrollment for health coverage at no cost to the applicant.

Applicants can still apply for the Health Insurance Marketplace after March 31 if they have a qualifying life event such as: change in applicant’s legal marital status, having, adopting, or placement of a child, permanently moving to a new area that offers different health plan options, losing other health coverage, or a change in income or household status that affects eligibility for tax credits or cost-sharing reductions.

Each Granville Medical Center counselor has completed more than 6 hours of training which includes Health Insurance Marketplace assessments and testing. Counselors must pass program assessment measures in order to receive a Certified Application Counselor Certificate.

New applicants are enrolled daily into the Health Insurance Marketplace and counselors are available Monday – Thursday from 9am – 1pm by appointment only. Applicants are required to schedule an appointment and will need to bring to the counseling session the Social Security number and employer and income information for everyone in the household that needs coverage.

“There are questions and concerns surrounding the Health Insurance Marketplace and the Affordable Care Act, so we put this counseling program in place.” says CEO L. Lee Isley “Granville Health System wants to help ensure that everyone that needs help gets it. We will continue supporting community education and helping facilitate the enrollment process regardless of income or employment status.”

The Health Insurance Marketplace helps uninsured individuals find health coverage by placing available insurance options in one place enabling the applicant to compare plans. The Affordable Care Act states that in 2014 most people must have health coverage or pay a penalty.

Applying for health insurance coverage through the Marketplace enables you to find out if you qualify for lower monthly premiums. Individuals that qualify may also receive lower out-of-pocket costs for copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles. Those that don’t enroll by March 31 will not be able to get private health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace until the next open enrollment period. The next open enrollment period will be open October 15 – December 7, 2014.
