GHS Opens New Emergency Department at Granville Medical Center
OXFORD, NC (May 8, 2013) – Granville Health System (GHS) announced the new emergency department addition at Granville Medical Center is now open.
Emergency department patients should use the new entrance at the rear of the hospital. Ample parking and an upgraded roadway has also been installed for patient convenience. Patients arriving by ambulance use a separate entrance to ensure privacy.
The emergency department is nearly 15,000 square feet larger to accommodate the ever-pressing rise in the hospital’s annual admissions and emergency department visits. The new facility offers 12 private exam rooms that include window blinds for each room and a sound-reduction door that allows for private conversations. Each exam room also has a television and comfortable seating for the patient’s family as well as the latest technology for offering quality care.
The registration area in the new emergency department is designed for efficiency allowing for a shorter registration process and an improved patient experience. Patients will be immediately escorted to a triage area to facilitate minimum wait times.
Wake Emergency Physicians, PA (WEPPA) is providing physicians for the new emergency department. WEPPA is an independent, physician group comprised of 122 emergency medicine specialists. The group’s providers include 70 physicians who are board certified or board eligible in emergency medicine, six physicians who are dually board certified as pediatric emergency medicine sub-specialists, and one physician who is dually boarded in both emergency medicine and pediatric emergency medicine. In addition to physicians, WEPPA utilizes 42 midlevel providers who are experienced in emergency medicine.
WEPPA provides emergency medical services through WakeMed Health and Hospital’s emergency departments at the Raleigh Campus, Cary Hospital, North Healthplex, Apex Healthplex, Brier Creek Healthplex and through Johnston Health’s emergency department at the Clayton Medical Center.
“GHS is pleased to welcome Wake Emergency Physicians, PA (WEPPA),” said L. Lee Isley, GHS Chief Executive Officer. “The group has a proven track record for delivering quality care and efficiency so they are a great fit for Granville Health System.”
The new emergency department will also feature the TeleStroke system, a two-way live video, audio and image sharing system, by which consulting stroke neurologists from Wake Forest Baptist Health can evaluate a GHS patient in real time to diagnose a stroke and determine the best course of action. The program is a form of telemedicine that provides GHS patients with enhanced in-house stroke care and 24-hour access to WakeMed Health & Hospitals as well as Wake Forest Baptist’s stroke neurologists.
The facility offers a spacious lobby area, 3 oversized restrooms, new vending options, a decontamination area and an employee lounge area with a state-of-the-art patient tracking system. The trauma rooms, which are conveniently located near the separate EMS entrance, feature sophisticated lighting and advanced monitoring and support systems.
“We are pleased to have the newest Emergency Department in the region,” said Jason Brand, Administrative Director of Emergency Medicine. “The new facility features many changes and upgrades – all designed to provide patients with a high level of quality care with improved technology and efficiency.”
The former emergency department is being renovated for use by the hospital laboratory. That construction project will be completed by late August, 2013. The new laboratory will feature its own waiting area, separate from the emergency department waiting room.
“I’d like to thank our community partners for their support during this project,” said L.C. Adcock, Chairman of the Board of Trustees. “In particular the Golden LEAF Foundation, the Cannon Foundation and the GHS Foundation made very generous grants dedicated to improving the health of Granville County citizens.”
