Granville Health System Announces The Breast Care Program at Granville Surgical Associates

OXFORD, NC (February 8, 2018) – Granville Health System (GHS) recently announced Naveen Kumar, MD of Granville Surgical Associates will open The Breast Care Program.

The Breast Care Program will offer full breast care to women of all ages. Breast care consists of imaging, biopsy, and cancer procedures like lumpectomy, mastectomy, and breast reconstruction. Through The Breast Care Program, Dr. Kumar will also offer breast reduction surgery.

Breast reduction surgery is recommended for women with overly large breasts which cause chronic neck, back, and shoulder pain. Many women with large breasts also suffer from shoulder indentations from bra straps as well as skin irritation in the sensitive skin under the breasts.

“Granville is pleased to open The Breast Care Program at Granville Surgical Associates,” said L. Lee Isley, PhD, FACHE, CEO of Granville Health System. “The focus on women’s health is a result of the vision and support of the Board of Trustees and the medical staff.”

Dr. Kumar is a graduate of Drexel University College of Medicine. He completed his general surgery residency at St. Barnabas Medical Center (Robert Wood Johnson-Barnabas) and received further training in plastic surgery at Duke University Hospital.

“I am very humbled to help women through their breast procedures,” Kumar said. “From an abnormal mammogram to breast reconstruction, a woman goes through a tremendous amount of anxiety. They place an incredible amount of trust in me and I want to be respectful of that trust.”

Breast imaging consists of breast ultrasound, 3D mammography, and guided biopsy. Breast imaging is performed in the Imaging Department at Granville Medical Center and is done in conjunction with Radiologist Michael Stoll, MD.

Dr. Kumar opens The Breast Care Program at an exciting time. The Leapfrog Group recently awarded Granville Health System back to back “A” ratings in quality and patient safety for both Spring 2017 and Fall 2017.  The Group is a nonprofit organization committed to driving quality, safety, and transparency in the U.S. health care system.

The “A” ratings were the result of excellent scores in the surgical areas of infection control, preventing complications from surgery and medication errors, and avoiding patient safety issues.

Dr. Kumar is accepting new patients. To schedule an appointment please call 919-603-0368.
