Granville Health System Breaks Ground for $20 Million Construction Project

10/20/2011

On October 17, Granville Health System (GHS) broke ground on phase one of the GHS Expansion Plan, a 4-phase master facility plan that will span the next 20 years. Phase one is a $20 million construction project that is expected to be completed in June, 2013.

The project is the largest in the health system’s 91 year history, including approximately 32,000 square feet of new construction and renovated space. The plan includes a new emergency department that will grow from 3,135 to 18,000 square feet, expanded space for surgical services and a larger laboratory department, expanded by over 1,000 square feet. A new, larger lobby and admissions area will provide more comfort and convenience for patients and visitors alike. The plan also calls for a new energy plant, additional parking and a more efficient and usable roadway and entrance system.

“In order to meet the future health care needs of our community, we must continue implementing a long-term approach of strategic growth,” said L. Lee Isley, GHS Chief Executive Officer. “Through this expansion plan, we are assuring the community Granville Health System will continue to deliver the highest quality care and customer service to our patients where they work and live.”

The GHS Expansion Plan supports the health system’s mission during a critical time. In addition to keeping pace with advances in health care technology and national patient safety requirements, the area has experienced a dramatically expanding and maturing population. Granville Health System will continue to reinvest back into the community in order to meet the health care needs of Granville County and the surrounding areas.

In fact, GHS was recently named to the Community Value Index® Five-Star hospitals list. The Community Value Index (CVI) ranking measures the financial value hospitals bring to their service areas and places Granville Health System within the top 20% of hospitals in the United States in providing financial value to the communities they serve. Five-Star hospitals are considered a financially viable and valuable community asset that reinvests back into the areas they serve.

“As a health system, we have practiced good financial stewardship,” said L.C. Adcock, Chairman of the GHS Board of Trustees. “Granville Health System has built a strong platform for growth and developed a fiscally responsible plan for expansion and community investment.”

More information on phase one construction can be found online at www.ghsHospital.org/ExpansionPlan. Updates to the site will be made as construction progresses. The website will also include the status of roadways and visitor and patient parking.

“The expansion plan calls for the addition of patient and visitor parking spaces, said Jason Brand, GHS Administrative Director. “Throughout phase one, the hospital parking capacity will be maintained, implementing a staged approach to construction which ensures that hospital and emergency department services are not disrupted.”
