Granville Health System Discontinues Prompt Pay Discount

8/18/2014

OXFORD, NC (August 15, 2014) – Granville Health System (GHS) announced that state and federal legislative cutbacks and the changing nature of the health care insurance industry due to the Affordable Care Act (ACA) have led to the health system discontinuing the health system’s Prompt Pay Discount.

Bills generated after 8/1/14 no longer offer the 20% discount on the patient’s obligation if paid within 30 days of receiving their bill. This change only affects those with health care coverage.

This change does not affect the Granville Health System’s Self-Pay discount which allows patients who do not qualify for the Financial Assistance Program and have no insurance to receive a 20% discount.

“Contracts held with commercial health insurance payers determine what we can and cannot offer with regard to payment discounts,” said L. Lee Isley, GHS Chief Executive Officer. “GHS is contractually bound by third party payers not to waive any portion of a plan member’s applicable deductible, coinsurance or copayment that may be required.”

In addition to adjustments being made by insurance providers, legislative changes continue to drive major shifts throughout the health care industry. GHS will continue to evaluate how the health system best delivers care to the communities it serves.

“Decisions being made in Washington and Raleigh have had real and immediate repercussions throughout health care,” said L. Lee Isley. “We are fortunate that Granville’s legislative leaders, Senator McKissick and Representatives Baskerville and Wilkins, have supported Granville Health System and our communities at the state level when we needed a voice at the Capitol. Unfortunately, due to increased cuts in reimbursements tied to new legislation, the way we provide care will continue to change as our industry adjusts to the new environment of health care.”
