Granville Health System Nurse Named VGCC Instructor
Granville Health System (GHS) recently announced Vance Granville Community College (VGCC) has named Ashley Martin, BSN, RN, a clinical instructor in its labor and delivery rotation. Experienced in labor and delivery, postpartum care, and newborn care, Martin will serve part-time in this capacity while maintaining her position as a nurse in the OB unit at Granville Medical Center.
Martin received her Associate of Science degree in Nursing from VGCC in 2015. While at the school, she achieved the OB/Pediatrics Clinical Excellence Award. She recently graduated with cum laude distinction from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
“I look forward to taking on this new role,” Martin said. “I am very passionate about the training of new nursing talent in our area.”
Martin will offer the OB clinical rotation students opportunities for working with labor and delivery, caring for newborns, discharge planning, and simulations of life-threatening events in the delivery room.
“This community produces top talent in the health care industry,” said Cristina Carroll, Interim GHS Chief Executive Officer. “We all win when our community hospital partners with educators with quality training programs like VGCC’s Nursing Program.”
GHS also supports Vance Granville Community College as a clinical partner with the Radiography Program, the Phlebotomy Program, and the Certified Nursing Assistant Program. Granville also partners with North Carolina Central University and Piedmont Community College to provide clinical rotations to nursing students.
Additionally, medical students from both the UNC Longitudinal Care Program and the Duke University Medical School’s Family Medicine Residency Program have completed clinical rotations at GHS as an introduction to practicing rural, community medicine.
“Granville Health System is fortunate to be able to help train the best and brightest clinical students in the area,” Carroll said. “We look forward to seeing more students go on to serve the community as they graduate and begin their careers right here in Granville County.”
