Welcome to Your Medical Home

When accidents and illnesses arise, finding the best type of health care for your specific needs can be confusing. If you sprain your ankle over a weekend, should you go to the emergency room? Can your primary care physician treat accidental poisoning? And what exactly is an urgent care center? When you need medical attention, where should you go?

Granville Health System’s network of health care providers offers a broad range of advanced medical services designed specifically for you and your family. Below we explain the differences between the services provided by the Primary Care facilities, Emergency Department, and Urgent Care of Granville Health System.

Your access to the very best health care begins with a medical home: your primary care physician.

Primary Care

Granville Health System Primary Care is a great place for you or a family member to receive excellent general medical care. GHS primary care physicians are “your doctors” and treat a wide range of patients of all different ages. From routine health exams and well baby visits to complex illnesses and minor injuries, they are ready to provide you with excellent medical care.

The Role of Your Primary Care Physician (PCP) in a Medical Home Setting:

Your Granville Health System PCP is available to:

  • Diagnose and treat personal medical problems
  • Provide you with care when you are sick
  • Provide preventative medical screenings based on medical risk factors or family history and if such screenings detect an early-stage condition, provide appropriate treatment or referral
  • Admit you to a hospital, if needed
  • Provide formal written referrals to specialists when needed
  • Coordinate the efforts of various specialists who may be diagnosing and treating your medical problems.
  • Give you information about less expensive generic medications or various drug interactions and their effects.
  • See you right away in many situations so you can avoid using the Emergency Room for non-emergency care, saving you time and dollars. An ongoing partnership with a PCP will mean that your personal medical history will be documented and taken into consideration when an emergency arises.

You can call any of our primary care facilities to schedule an appointment. Our caring physicians and skilled medical staff are available Monday through Friday during normal business hours. Same-day appointments may be available.

When to Call 911

Medical emergencies happen far more often than you may think and we never know when they will happen. During an emergency, seconds can make a difference...

If you have a life-threatening emergency or need an ambulance, call 911.

Life-threatening situations require immediate medical intervention. Call 911 whenever the following symptoms are involved, or you feel it necessary:

  • Chest pain

  • Chemical exposures

  • Difficulty breathing

  • Serious burns

  • Loss of consciousness, unaccustomed headache

  • Poisoning

  • Severe allergic reactions

  • Weakness on one side of the body or difficulty speaking

  • Uncontrolled or severe bleeding

  • Eye injuries

  • Seizures

These are only examples, of course; you must always use your own judgment to decide if an ambulance and/or emergency care is needed.

When you need immediate care

South Granville Medical Center’s is designed to care for you and your family when medical attention is needed right away without an appointment, but your needs aren’t serious enough for the emergency room. Examples may include ear infections, sprains, minor cuts and burns, viruses, severe colds and the flu. Urgent care centers have resources similar to primary care physicians, but they provide comprehensive quality care on a walk-in basis and have extended hours.

If your primary care physician is not available and you need quick medical attention for a

non-life-threatening problem, visit South Granville Medical Center.

In addition to having a skilled medical staff, South Granville Medical Center is a full-service

medical facility, equipped to provide convenient urgent care close to home when you need

it most.
