Fraud Alert: Granville Health System Telephone Number Used in Scam

1/4/2018

OXFORD, NC (January 4, 2018)Granville Health System (GHS) recently confirmed a telephone number assigned to Granville Medical Center is being used as part of a telephone spoofing scam targeting individuals in the community.

The scammers have been representing themselves as Granville Medical, offering life insurance. They alter the appearance of the caller ID to make it seem as if the call is coming from Granville Medical Center. The perpetrator may use various tactics to obtain or verify the victim’s personal information, which can then be used to steal money from an individual’s bank account or for other fraudulent activity. In this case, a recorded message prompted the individual to leave their name and date of birth.

“GHS take this matter seriously,” said Jason Brand, Administrative Director for Granville Health System. “We are actively investigating this matter and encourage the public to remain vigilant and protect their personal information.”

“If Granville Health System is calling, we will be able to provide specific pieces of information,” Brand said. “GHS representatives will be able to provide your first and last name in addition to the billing address you provided at registration. Never offer any personal information and if you have any questions pertaining to a bill please call us directly at 919-690-3000.”
