Hurricane Safety Checklist

9/12/2018

Hurricane Florence is headed toward North Carolina and is expected to bring high winds and heavy rain to Granville and surrounding countries which could lead to downed trees and power lines and flooding. There are things you can do to be ready.  Preparation is the best protection against the dangers of a hurricane.

What should you do?

Listen to the radio, watch the news, stay up to date on the storm.
Stock up on “disaster supplies”.
Fill your cars’ gas tanks.
Bring inside anything that can be picked up by the wind (lawn furniture, potted plants, etc.)
Turn your refrigerator and freezer to the coldest settings and keep them closed as much as
possible so that food will last longer if your power goes out.
Turn off propane tanks and unplug small appliances.
Create an “evacuation plan” to minimize confusion and fear during the need to evacuate.
Learn about your community’s hurricane response plan.  Find out where your local shelters are.
Make plans for your pets to be cared for.
