Granville Health System Launches Inpatient Dialysis Services at Granville Medical Center
OXFORD, NC, July 1, 2026,– Granville Health System (GHS) is proud to announce the launch of inpatient dialysis services at Granville Medical Center, marking a significant expansion of specialized healthcare services available locally to patients throughout Granville County and the surrounding region.
The new service became operational on June 24, 2026, following approval through North Carolina’s Certificate of Need (CON) process. The addition of inpatient dialysis services allows hospitalized patients requiring dialysis treatment to receive care at Granville Medical Center without the need for transfer to another facility. The program is supported through a clinical collaboration with Durham Nephrology Associates, whose physicians have served patients in Granville County for more than four decades.
“This is an important milestone for Granville Health System and the patients we serve,” said Adam McConnell, Chief Executive Officer. “By bringing inpatient dialysis services to our hospital, we are improving access to essential care, enhancing the patient experience, and helping patients remain close to home and their loved ones during treatment.”
Inpatient dialysis is a critical service for patients experiencing kidney disease, or other medical conditions that require dialysis while hospitalized. Previously, many patients requiring these services had to be transferred to other healthcare facilities, creating additional stress for patients and families while disrupting continuity of care.
With the implementation of inpatient dialysis, GHS physicians, nurses, and clinical teams can provide more comprehensive care within the hospital setting, reducing the need for transfers and supporting improved coordination of treatment.
“Our group of kidney care specialists at Durham Nephrology have had offices in Granville County since the practice was founded more than 40 years ago. We have already brought all the new treatments for preventing kidney failure to the county and are very excited to be part of the hospital’s expansion into providing dialysis and impressed with the quality of the team that they have assembled,” added Dr. S. Ted Shaikewitz, Durham Nephrology Associates.
The launch of inpatient dialysis services aligns with Granville Health System’s mission to promote well-being, accelerate healing, and inspire hope while advancing access to specialized healthcare services for residents of Granville County and neighboring communities.
