Alexia Edwards, FNP
With over two decades of nursing experience, Alexia Edwards, NP, has dedicated her career to compassionate, patient-centered care. From an early age, she knew she wanted to work in healthcare, driven by a deep desire to help others feel better and find answers to their health concerns.
Her diverse clinical background includes working in emergency departments at Maria Parham, Duke Regional, and WakeMed. However, she found her professional home in the GI lab at Maria Parham, where her passion for gastrointestinal care flourished. During her time there, she served as the Heartburn Nurse Coordinator, helping patients understand procedures such as the Bravo pH capsule, esophageal manometry, and surgical options for GERD, including laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication.
One of her favorite aspects of care is taking the time to sit down with patients to discuss lifestyle changes, diet, and treatment options—ensuring they feel informed and empowered. She is a strong advocate for preventative care, particularly screening colonoscopies, and works to reduce patient anxiety through education and reassurance.
A natural mentor, she has inspired many nurses to further their education—including a former colleague who she encouraged to pursue both a BSN and later become a Nurse Practitioner. Today, she continues to support RNs in advancing their careers. She believes in open, respectful communication and makes it a priority to involve patients in their care decisions by thoroughly explaining diagnoses and medications.
Outside the clinic, she enjoys a quiet, family-oriented life with her husband and college-aged child. She loves watching movies with her family, reading, and staying active. A former running enthusiast, she completed over 30 5K races—including her first at the Granville Ambulance Chase—before returning to school to complete her BSN and NP programs.
