OXFORD, NC, September 10, 2025— The Granville Health System Foundation today announced that Emily Wright, Hannah Twisdale, & Mary Richardson, all of Oxford, are the recipients of its 15th annual Sam Perry Scholarship Award. Ms. Wright, daughter of Robbie and Angela Wright, is currently attending Wake Forest University School of Medicine in the Physician Assistant Program. Ms. Twisdale, daughter of Timothy and Amanda Twisdale, is attending Campbell University to begin working towards her Doctorate of Pharmacy. Ms. Richardson, daughter of Chris and Elizabeth Richardson, is attending East Carolina University to pursue her MSN/BSN degree and currently working as an RN at ECU Health Medical center.
In 2009, the Granville Health System Board of Trustees and the GHS Foundation Board of Directors established a scholarship fund in honor of Sam Perry, a physician’s assistant whose specialized medical care earned him deep respect from both patients and peers throughout his career at Granville Health System.
The Sam Perry Scholarship is awarded to Granville County residents who have been accepted into a two-year or four-year allied health program at an accredited school and who intend to pursue a career in the health care field. Programs eligible for this scholarship include various health-related specialties including, but not limited to, clinical laboratory sciences, physical therapy, occupational therapy, radiological science, pharmacy, RN, BSN, ADN, LPN, dentistry and related careers, physician, physician assistant, and nurse practitioner.
“The GHS Foundation is proud to support the next generation of healthcare leaders right here in our community through the Sam Perry Scholarship Award. This year’s recipients Emily Wright, Hannah Twisdale, and Mary Richardson represent the dedication, compassion, and academic discipline needed to pursue their dreams in health care,” said Xavier L. Wortham, GHS Foundation Board President. “By investing in local talent, we are not only honoring Sam’s legacy of service but also strengthening the future of healthcare for Granville County and beyond.”
