GHS Foundation Art Gala Raises More than $77,000 in Support of Expansion Plan

The Granville Health System (GHS) Foundation held its second annual Art Gala on November 6 at the Henderson Country Club. The event raised more than $77,500 in support of the upcoming GHS Expansion Plan.

Close to 200 people attended the lively “Everything About Art” Gala, which kicked off at 6:00 p.m. with music by F. O. Finch III Jazz Quartet, cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction. Twenty-one donated items were on the silent auction block, including framed paintings by well-known area artists, custom hand-made necklaces, themed holiday wreaths, stoneware, and lunch for two at the Museum of Art’s Iris Café.

The creative and sumptuous dinner included Marinated Fresh Herb encrusted New Zealand Lamb Lollipop Chops; Phyllo Dough Beggar’s Purses filled with golden figs and mascarpone cheese; Shrimp Amuse Bouché finished with Thai Chile aioli; Wine and Fall Spiced Poached Pear Fans; a selection of Gourmet Rolls; a Hand-cut Petite Filet Mignon finished with maitre d’ butter; a Panko-Crusted Citrus Wahoo Filet on a bed of wild mushroom risotto; a Medley of Petit Pan and Winter Root Vegetables; and for dessert an original creation by Karen Haire, “The Cake Lady”.

Following dinner, several big ticket items were part of the exciting live auction, during which Foundation Board member and auctioneer William Adcock entertained Gala guests. Adcock stirred up lively bidding for more than 33 outstanding items, including a New York City trip package, an Umstead Hotel and Spa package, a getaway weekend at Wrightsville Beach, a gourmet sampling experience for six, a crystalline lamp by the late Sid Oakley, a package including a serving plate from internationally renowned potter Val Cushing, a culinary class at A Southern Season in Chapel Hill, and a hand blown vase by Lisa Oakley.
A Bob Timberlake framed print and a set of sauce dishes made by the late Sid Oakley headlined the seven items in the raffle held after the live auction.

“The support shown for this event by the members of our community was greatly appreciated,” said Gary Bowman, President of the Foundation Board. “The Foundation received support from many local businesses and their sponsorship of this event helped make the event such a huge success,” Bowman continued.

Sponsors of the 2019 GHS Art Gala included: BB&T; Mr. and Mrs. James Blaine; John and Peg Braddy; Center for Women’s Health; Cole Rodger Photographics; Design Signs; Dr. Alex Drake; Dr. and Mrs. Stephen Ertischek; Steve E. Bowman said the annual gala is the biggest fundraiser for the Foundation in terms of the number of people involved and money raised for a single event. “Like all of our fundraisers, we use the money raised from the gala to support the work of Granville Health System. This year, proceeds from the gala will support the upcoming Expansion Plan,” he said.

The expansion plan, an ambitious 32,000 square foot construction project, is the largest in the health system’s history. It includes a new Emergency Department that will grow from 3,135 to 18,000 square feet; expanded Surgical Services; a larger Laboratory Department; a new, larger lobby and admissions area; and additional patient and visitor parking. Preparation work for the construction has already begun.

“We are grateful to everyone in the community for their support,” said L. Lee Isley, Chief Executive Officer for Granville Health System. “Those who attended the Art Gala were treated to a wonderful evening of dinner and entertainment. In return, their financial contributions will benefit the hospital by helping to increase its capacity to meet the community’s growing demand for health care services.”

Planners of this spectacular event included chairwoman Dr. Joanne Fruth, Carolyn Blackwell, Kim Bufkin, Darcy Drake, Georgeen Ertischek, Cindy Fink, Janet Gruchacz, Donna Spears, Chotsey Winborne, and Martha Wrenn.

Plans are already being made for the 2011 Gala, which will be held at Henderson Country Club in early November. To receive information on the event, please contact Janet Herzberg, GHS Community Relations Director at 919.690-2148, e-mail jherzberg@granvillemedical.com.
