GHS Foundation Awards 2013 Sam Perry Scholarship to Hannah Grey Moore
OXFORD, NC (August 16, 2013) – The Granville Health System Foundation has announced that Hannah Grey Moore of Oxford was awarded the fourth annual Sam Perry Scholarship. Ms. Moore, who is the daughter of Joyce Moore, recently graduated from J. F. Webb High School of Health & Life Sciences. She will be entering East Carolina University this fall to pursue a career in physical therapy.
The Foundation established the scholarship fund in memory of Sam Perry, a physician’s assistant (PA) whose specialized medical care had earned him deep respect from both patients and peers throughout his career.
“Sam would be proud to see this young woman earn this scholarship in pursuit of a career in health care,” said Gary Bowman, President of the Granville Health System Foundation. “By seeking out exceptional students for this recognition, we will continue to honor Sam’s vision.”
The Sam Perry Scholarship is awarded to a Granville County resident who has been accepted into a two-year or four-year Allied Health Program at an accredited school and who intends to pursue a career in the allied health care field. Programs eligible for this scholarship include clinical laboratory sciences, physical therapy, occupational therapy, radiological science, pharmacy, RN, BSN, ADN, LPN, dentistry and related careers, physician assistant, and nurse practitioner.
Ms. Moore’s impressive record illustrates the qualities of academic performance, leadership, and community involvement that are sought by the Sam Perry Scholarship selection committee.
Throughout high school, Ms. Moore took some of the most challenging courses offered, and maintained a position in the top 10 students in her class throughout her high school career. Her final grade point average was 4.28.
Sterling leadership qualities were also exhibited by Ms. Moore. She has been a Granville County Student of Merit since 2006 and a member of the National Honor Society since 2011. She served as President of the Interact Club and held a leadership role in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Leadership Planning Committee. She was also a member of the Health Occupations Students of America and an active member of the First Baptist Church of Creedmoor.
In addition to her heavy academic involvement, Ms. Moore worked part-time at the Oxford Parks & Recreation Department.
“Ms. Moore’s accomplishments are impressive,” said Marshall Tanner of the Sam Perry Scholarship Committee. “We are confident that she has an exciting future ahead of her.”
