Granville Health System Celebrates National Nurses Week and National Hospital Week

The administration and Board of Trustees of Granville Health System (GHS) are pleased to celebrate National Nurses Week and National Hospital Week. The occasions will be marked with celebratory activities this week at the hospital’s main campus in Oxford to honor the excellent work of all our health system’s team members and will culminate with the acknowledgement of the health system’s esteemed Nurse of the Year award.

“The celebration of Nurses Week and Hospital Week, this year is particularly distinctive,” said Granville Health System Chief Executive Officer, John F. Snow. “Granville Health System provided influential care and leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic. This heroic team provided historic work, promoted well-being, accelerated healing, and inspired hope, for north central North Carolina during one of the most difficult times in our country’s history. I am proud of the exceptional care found at Granville Health and I am especially proud to celebrate our team’s remarkable accomplishments during this most remarkable time.”

Supported by an exceptional support staff, the medical staff and nurses in the hospital, physician practices, and skilled nursing facilities of Granville Health System proudly and admirably serve the needs of Granville County and neighboring communities. For their collective efforts serving the community through the COVID-19 pandemic, the entire GHS nursing staff will be honored on Wednesday as “Nurse of the Year.”

“This year, I am honored to announce that All Granville Health System Nurses are recognized as the 2020 and 2021 Nurse of the Year honorees,” said Ann Marie Holtzman-Wheeler, GHS Chief Nursing Officer. This makes the first time the award given to its most outstanding nurse, as nominated by nursing peers, is shared by more than one recipient.

Ms. Holtzman-Wheeler continued, “Leadership, professionalism, sacrifice, and compassion are prominent characteristics of Granville Nursing. I cannot think of a time in the history of Granville Health System when a nursing team came together to make such a difference in the care and lives of others than in these past two years. The dedication and excellence of our nurses are unrivaled. Congratulations to our 2020 and 2021 Nurses of the Year.”
