Granville Health System Foundation Announces Ambulance Chase Results
OXFORD, NC (April 9, 2014) – The Granville Health System Foundation announced the official results of the Granville 5K Ambulance Chase held on Saturday, March 22, 2014.
The overall first place winner in the race was Hana Baskin of Durham, NC. Hana finished the 5K (3.1 miles) in 20:51 or 6:42 minutes per mile.
“I usually run a 5K in less than 20 minutes, but I haven’t been able to train properly with all the bad weather this winter,” said Hana.
Hana is originally from an area just northwest of Philadelphia, PA. She moved to North Carolina to pursue a Master’s Degree from Duke University. She stayed because she likes the area and the weather.
Hana now teaches math and art at Oxford Preparatory High School where she hosted fall running workouts for some of the basketball team members.
“I signed up for the very first Ambulance Chase because it was a short drive from my house in Durham,” she said. “I didn’t realize that I would soon take a job in Oxford and get to know so many members of the community.”
The Granville 5K Ambulance Chase and Food Truck Rodeo is just one of many races in which she has taken home a trophy. She wanted to try out for the field hockey team in high school and, after a last-minute change of heart, went to the track instead. She ended up participating on the track and cross country teams during all four years of high school and college.
“I like the longer races better than the shorter distances because I can find my pace and stick to it,” she said. “I hope to train this summer for a half-marathon. I hope I’ll always be running.”
Nearly 225 people participated in the event, including the 5K competitive and 5K Fun Run, the 1-Mile Family Walk and the Kids Dash. More than 750 people attended the Food Truck Rodeo.
