Granville Health System Foundation Awards $6,000 in Sam Perry Scholarships to Four Granville County Students
16th Annual Scholarship Program Makes Largest Annual Investment Yet in Future Healthcare Professionals
The Granville Health System Foundation has awarded a record $6,000 in Sam Perry Scholarships to four Granville County students pursuing careers in healthcare, marking the largest annual scholarship investment in the program’s 16-year history.
This year’s recipients are Anna Drake, Myra-Grace Greene, Lexi Cottrell, and Emily Wright, who were selected based on their academic achievement, commitment to serving others, and plans to pursue careers in healthcare.
Anna Drake received the first-place scholarship of $2,500. She is a graduate of Vance Charter School and is attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Annie will be majoring in Exercise & Sports Science to pursue a career as a Physical Therapist.
Myra-Grace Greene received the second-place scholarship of $1,500. She is a graduate of North Wake Early College and is also attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Myra will be majoring in Biology to pursue a career in Women’s Health.
A tie for third place was awarded to Lexi Cottrell and Emily Wright, who each received $1,000 scholarships. Lexi is currently attending Pfeiffer University, where she is pursuing a Physician Assistant degree, while Emily is enrolled in the Physician Assistant Program at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. Both Emily and Lexi will be graduating in May 2027.
Established in 2009 by the Granville Health System Board of Trustees and the Granville Health System Foundation Board of Directors, the Sam Perry Scholarship honors the legacy of Sam Perry, a longtime physician assistant whose compassion, clinical excellence, and dedication to patients left a lasting impact on Granville Health System and the community.
The scholarship is awarded annually to Granville County residents who have been accepted into accredited allied health programs and plan to pursue careers in healthcare. Eligible fields include nursing, physician assistant studies, pharmacy, medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, radiologic sciences, clinical laboratory sciences, dentistry, and other allied health professions.

Wortham, President of the GHS Foundation Board of Directors. “By awarding the largest amount in the history of the Sam Perry Scholarship program, we are reaffirming our commitment to supporting local students as they pursue careers dedicated to caring for others. Anna, Myra-Grace, Lexi, and Emily exemplify the talent, compassion, and determination that will strengthen healthcare in our communities for years to come.”
Since its establishment in 2009, the Sam Perry Scholarship has helped aspiring healthcare professionals from Granville County pursue their educational goals while honoring Sam Perry’s enduring legacy of compassionate care. The Foundation remains committed to investing in the next generation of healthcare providers and strengthening the future of healthcare close to home.
