Granville Health System Foundation Donates $10,000 to Sam Perry Memorial Scholarship Fund; Announces Award Increase to $1,000

OXFORD, NC (February 26, 2016) – Since its beginning in 1984, the Granville Health System Foundation has served as a charitable resource for Granville Health System, working to improve the health and quality of life for the community.

“It has been exciting to see the remarkable growth of the Foundation,” said Marshall Tanner, GHS Foundation Board member. “Our Board has worked hard to earn the community’s trust in regards to charitable giving.”

The Granville Health System Foundation recently donated $10,000 to the Sam Perry Memorial Scholarship Fund. The Foundation established the scholarship fund in honor of Sam Perry, a physician’s assistant (PA) whose specialized medical care earned him deep respect from both patients and peers throughout his career.

“Our board has practiced good financial stewardship by carefully managing our investments and working diligently to bring in new gifts,” said Gary Bowman, GHS Foundation Chairman. “This has placed our Foundation in a position to do more good for our community.”

The GHS Foundation is now accepting applications for the 2016 Sam Perry Memorial Scholarship Program. The GHS Foundation will be awarding $1,000 to the scholarship recipient this year, which is an increase from the $500 awarded in previous years.

The scholarship will be awarded by the Foundation to a Granville County resident who has been accepted into a two-year or four-year Allied Health Program at an accredited school and who intends to pursue a career in the allied health care field. Programs eligible for this scholarship include clinical laboratory sciences, physical therapy, occupational therapy, radiological science, pharmacy, RN, BSN, ADN, LPN, dentistry and related careers, physician assistant, and nurse practitioner.

The deadline for submitting applications is April 29, 2016. The Scholarship recipient will be selected by the Foundation Board in May 2016, using established criteria. A monetary award of one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) will be paid toward the recipient’s tuition in August 2016, upon verification of acceptance into an approved program. This is a one-time scholarship, but individuals may reapply for as many years as they are in school.
