Granville Health System Foundation Holds Second Annual Royal Tea Party
The Granville Health System Foundation held its second annual Royal Tea Party on Saturday, May 15 at the Granville County Shrine Club in Oxford.
After the hundred guests viewed the silent auction items, they enjoyed a presentation about the art of afternoon tea and tea etiquette by Mrs. Marcia Roots, who is a Level 3 Professional Series Graduate of the Specialty Tea Institute in California, a Division of the Tea Association of the USA, Inc.
“The Royal Tea Party was a wonderful mother-daughter event for young girls to grandmothers,” said Mrs. Roots. “It was a way for girls and women to enjoy the ambience of an elegant afternoon, and savor a cultural event they may not otherwise have experienced.”
Morrison’s Catering provided the delicious four-course menu for the tea, which featured several kinds of savories, three types of fresh scones served with lemon curd, lemon squares, pear sparkler, and fruit compote.
Students from J.F. Webb High School served as waiters and waitresses to meet the guests’ every need, while they were entertained by classical and Broadway show tunes played by the Evelyn Snyder String Trio. To enliven the afternoon, a Parade of Hats was held, with prizes awarded at the end of the event for the most beautiful, most creative and most unusual hats.
The silent auction featured six VIP tickets to the NC Symphony headlining Clay Aiken, a gift certificate for WLUS advertising, lace tablecloths from Macra Lace/Lace Lastics, and a gas trimmer from Lowes. Additional auction and raffle items were donated by Ashley Jordan’s Flowers & Gifts, Cole Rodger from ColeImage.com, J. C. Penney, Jones Custom Framing, Marketplace Cinema, Morton’s Nursery, Old North State Tea Society, Our State Magazine, Southern States, and Stovall’s Gift Shop.
Sponsors for the event included Central Carolina Foot & Ankle Associates, the Courier Times, Daily Dispatch, Harperprints, In10sity Interactive, Mobile Biopsy, On Hold Marketing, Taylor Printing and Office Supply, and Triangle Orthopaedic Associates. The Cake Lady and Fishing Creek Nursery provided prizes for the event.
Proceeds from the Royal Tea benefitted the Granville Health System Foundation. The purpose of the Granville Health System Foundation is to support Granville Health System in promoting and advancing the well-being of our community by providing quality health care and health-related services. Gifts will help support medical and health care excellence at Granville Health System.
