Granville Health System Foundation Now Accepting Applications for its 2026 Sam Perry Memorial Scholarship

16th Annual Award Recognizes Exceptional Academic Achievement In Pursuit of a Career in Health Care

The Granville Health System Foundation today announced that it is accepting applications for its 2026 Sam Perry Memorial Scholarship Program, now in its 16th year. The deadline for submitting a completed scholarship application packet is May 4, 2026, at 5:00pm, and more information is available at www.ghshospital.org/ghs-foundation.

Using established criteria, the GHS Foundation will select the 2026 Sam Perry Memorial Scholarship recipients by the end of May 2026. Beginning this year, the Foundation has increased the scholarship awards to support more students pursuing careers in health care and to help strengthen the future healthcare workforce in Granville County and surrounding communities.

The first-place recipient will receive a $2,500 scholarship, while second and third-place recipients will receive $1,000 scholarships to be paid toward tuition in August 2026, upon verification of acceptance into an approved program. These are one-time scholarships, but individuals may reapply for as many years as they are enrolled in school.

In 2009, the Granville Health System Board of Trustees and the GHS Foundation Board of Directors established a scholarship fund in honor of Sam Perry, a physician assistant whose specialized medical care earned him deep respect from both patients and peers throughout his career at Granville Health System, one of North Carolina’s leading rural hospitals.

Each year, the GHS Foundation awards the Sam Perry Memorial Scholarship to Granville County residents who have been accepted into a two-year or four-year Allied Health program at an accredited school with the intention of pursuing a career in the healthcare field. Programs eligible for this scholarship include clinical laboratory sciences, physical therapy, occupational therapy, radiological science, pharmacy, RN, BSN, ADN, LPN, dentistry and related careers, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, and other allied health professions.

By supporting local students pursuing healthcare careers, the scholarship program helps build a stronger healthcare workforce for rural communities and reflects Granville Health System’s commitment to investing in the next generation of healthcare professionals who may one day serve patients right here in their home community.
