Granville Health System Foundation Recognizes Legacy of Gary Bowman with Dedication Ceremony of GHS Pharmacy

The Gary L. Bowman Pharmacy at Granville Medical Center Honors Mr. Bowman’s Devotion to Oxford Community

The GHS Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, today held a dedication ceremony at Granville Health System (GHS) in downtown Oxford to honor Gary L. Bowman, a pharmacist, past GHS Foundation President and Oxford resident who passed away last year. The Granville Medical Center Pharmacy, a unit of Granville Health System, has been named in Mr. Bowman’s honor as “The Gary L. Bowman Pharmacy.”

The ceremony took place today at 12:15 P.M. with GHS Foundation Board members, Granville Health System executives and staff, and his wife Susan Bowman.

Mr. Bowman served as an officer of the Granville Health System Foundation for 17 years, serving as President for 12 of those years. He helped spearhead major fundraising campaigns, including the hospital’s ER expansion, purchase of diagnostic equipment, updating of medical facilities, and awarding the Sam Perry Scholarship to promising future health care professionals.

“Gary Bowman was deeply devoted to Granville Health System and to the wellness of the Oxford community, and it is with much joy and high regard that we dedicate The Gary L. Bowman Pharmacy at Granville Medical Center in his name and honor,” said John Burns, GHS Foundation President.

Mr. Bowman was highly engaged in the Oxford community. Upon graduating from The UNC-CH School of Pharmacy, he opened Professional Pharmacy of Oxford in 1994, which today is the only independent pharmacy in the area. He served as a trustee at Oxford United Methodist Church, President of the Oxford Rotary Club and Chair of the Rotary Foundation. In 2016, he was awarded the John Penn Citizen Award as Granville County’s citizen of the year. Mr. Bowman also received the Samuel B. Burris Award for Community Service for outstanding and unselfish civic, community and church volunteer service. He established the Gary and Susan Bowman Family Endowed Scholarship to support future generations of Carolina pharmacists.
