Granville Health System Highlights Free CPR Classes for the Community

Granville Health System (GHS) is proud to highlight its ongoing free CPR training classes, available to anyone in the community. Since launching in July 2024, Granville Health System has hosted these classes every other month, reaching 62 participants from a wide range of backgrounds across our community and region. These life-saving sessions reflect GHS’s mission to promote well-being, accelerate healing, and inspire hope—not just within the hospital, but throughout Granville County.

Granville Health System offers the American Heart Association’s Heartsaver® First Aid, CPR & AED course, designed for individuals with little or no medical training. This nationally recognized program meets job, and personal preparedness needs. Participants learn to provide first aid, perform CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) safely and effectively. Upon completion, students receive a certification card valid for two years. Topics covered include adult, child, and infant CPR, AED use, medical and injury emergencies, environmental emergencies, and opioid-associated life-threatening emergencies.

“Granville Health System is here for everyone in our community,” said Adam McConnell, CEO of Granville Health System. “By offering CPR training at no cost to anyone who wants to learn, we’re giving people the knowledge and confidence to act in a moment that could save a life. This is about making our entire community stronger, safer, and better prepared—together.”

The success of this initiative would not be possible without the leadership of Courtney Pernell, MSN, RN, Director of Education & Patient Experience, who oversees this valuable community program.

The program has already trained a wide range of participants, and GHS encourages individuals, families, and organizations to get involved.

“Every second counts in a cardiac emergency,” added GHS Staff Development Coordinator Chamara Enis, MSN, RN. “The more people we can train in CPR, the better our community’s chance of survival when those emergencies happen.”

Classes are held every other month from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the GHS Classroom, located in the building behind the main hospital at 1010 College Street, Oxford. Registration details and upcoming dates can be found at ghshospital.org/firstaid&cpr. Space is limited for each session, and early registration is encouraged.
