Now more than ever, Granville Health System is prepared and ready to provide care to you and your family. Our hospital and our physician office locations are safe places to receive care. Our medical staff are well trained to manage your care during this epidemic to keep you and your team safe. Our exceptional medical and clinical staff are prepared to serve you and this community should you need emergency, medical, or surgical care now. We appreciate your patience and your support as Granville Health System made adjustments in response to guidance from our state and federal governments to help protect our patients, staff, and residents. At the request of state and federal officials, Granville Health System suspended all elective and non-urgent procedures and surgeries effective March 23, 2020. This was done to preserve personal protective equipment, to provide for hospital surge capacity in the event of a rapid escalation of COVID-19 cases in the community, and to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Fortunately, many communities, including Granville County, have not seen a surge in COVID-19 cases. The cases that have been identified in our community have been cared for without straining our medical resources. Based on similar experiences across the country, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (“CMS”) issued new recommendations on April 19, 2020 that allows “facilities to provide care for patients needing non-emergent, non-COVID-19 healthcare.” These recommendations note that “it is important to restart care that is currently being postponed, such as certain procedural care (surgeries and procedures), chronic disease care, and, ultimately, preventive care.”
I am pleased to inform you that Granville Health System is fully capable and, because our patients have a wide range of medical conditions that should not be ignored, Granville Health System has begun providing clinically appropriate non-emergent, non-COVID-19 surgeries and procedures. Granville Health System has put stringent procedures in place to protect its patients and staff during this transition. We will carefully monitor the situation and be prepared to respond to a surge in COVID-19 cases or to other developments if necessary. We urge our patients to pay careful attention to their health. Failure to timely seek preventive and emergency care can create or exacerbate health issues that pose serious risks.
