Granville Health System Receives International Recognition for Excellence in Lactation Care

Granville Health System has been recognized for excellence in lactation care with the 2026 IBCLC Care Award by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners® (IBLCE®) and the International Lactation Consultant Association® (ILCA®).

The award recognizes health care facilities that demonstrate a commitment to promoting, protecting, and supporting breastfeeding through the employment of professionals who hold the International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant® (IBCLC®) credential and through initiatives that improve lactation support for families.

At Granville Health System, that commitment is led by Certified Lactation Consultant Christine Smith, who provides compassionate education, encouragement, and support to mothers and families throughout their breastfeeding journey.

“Helping mothers and babies during such an important time in their lives is incredibly rewarding,” said Christine Smith, Certified Lactation Consultant at Granville Health System. “My goal is to make sure every family feels supported, informed, and confident, whether they’re getting ready for birth or adjusting to life at home with a new baby.”

IBCLCs are specially trained professionals who provide evidence-based breastfeeding support before and after delivery. They assist families with breastfeeding education, overcoming feeding challenges, returning to work while breastfeeding, caring for premature or sick infants, and establishing healthy feeding practices for both mother and baby.

Granville Health System continues to invest in programs and services that strengthen maternal and infant care across the community. Receiving the IBCLC Care Award reflects the organization’s ongoing commitment to its mission to promote well-being, accelerate healing, and inspire hope.

“We are proud to offer this level of specialized care to families in our community,” said Adam McConnell, CEO. “This recognition reflects the dedication of our women’s health and maternity teams and our commitment to supporting healthy beginnings for every family we serve.”

There are currently more than 38,000 IBCLC professionals worldwide serving in hospitals, clinics, public health agencies, and community settings. The IBCLC credential is internationally recognized as the gold standard in professional lactation care.
