Granville Health System Recognized as an Advanced STAR Partner for Antimicrobial Stewardship
Oxford, NC, April 7, 2025 – Granville Health System (GHS) has been awarded Advanced STAR Partner Status by the North Carolina STAR Partners Program, a statewide initiative dedicated to promoting the responsible use of antimicrobials, such as antibiotics, in healthcare facilities.
The North Carolina STAR Partners Program, administered through the State of North Carolina Surveillance for Healthcare-Associated Infections and Resistant Pathogens Patient Safety (NC SHARPPS) Program, is designed to encourage the development of antimicrobial stewardship programs and foster collaboration among healthcare facilities. By optimizing antibiotic use, the program aims to improve patient care and combat antimicrobial resistance.
Participation in the program requires healthcare facilities to meet specific criteria at designated levels and submit a signed statement of commitment. Facilities must also complete an annual survey, enabling NC SHARPPS to monitor stewardship efforts across the state and ensure compliance with program standards. Recognized facilities receive certificates based on their qualifying level and are featured on the NC Division of Public Health website.
The Advanced STAR Partner Status awarded to Granville Health System reflects the organization’s ongoing dedication to patient safety and public health through antimicrobial stewardship. This achievement highlights GHS’s commitment to responsible antibiotic use, ensuring the highest level of care for its patients and the surrounding community.
“I’m proud of our team for earning this recognition, which demonstrates our collective commitment to using antibiotics responsibly and protecting the long-term health of our patients. It’s another example of how we’re working together to deliver the safest, most effective care possible,” said Adam McConnell, GHS CEO.
