Granville Health System Vaccinates Thousands Against COVID-19

Granville Health System (GHS) continued to vaccinate older adults against COVID-19 on Saturday and Sunday, January 16 and 17. With thousands of appointments booked, the health system, with the help of dozens of volunteers and staff, administered the COVID-19 vaccine to about one hundred people each hour, resulting in more than 1,300 vaccines administered each day.

The first-dose vaccines were administered as car visits from 7:00 am until 7:00 pm at Granville Primary Care & OB/GYN in Oxford. The clinic is located at 110 Professional Park Drive, on the campus of Granville Medical Center.

“I am so proud of the Granville Health System team and the dozens of volunteers who generously helped to offer the COVID-19 vaccine in Granville County. I observed a community united in a common mission to promote well-being and to inspire hope. The collaborative efforts included resources from Granville Health System, the City of Oxford, Granville County, and Emergency Management, who helped to make this event possible,” said CEO John F. Snow. “It was an honor to see on full display the professionalism and care my colleagues and this community provided to so many this weekend.”

The health system will continue offering COVID-19 vaccinations on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for the remainder of January from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm in the same location for those 65 years and older, provided the vaccine is made available to Granville Health System. An appointment for these vaccine clinics is also required, though all slots are booked at this time.

State and federal public health advisory committees have made recommendations for the priority of vaccinations based on the very limited supplies being available. The health system will continue to partner with the Granville-Vance District Health Department to vaccinate eligible priority 1a healthcare workers and long-term care staff and residents.

“The imagery most indelible to me is the canvas painted with community volunteers and healthcare staff working together, as heroes, side-by-side in service to others,” Snow continued. “Thank you to all for making such a positive difference to so many.”
