Nurse Residency Program
The Nurse Residency Program is modeled after Benner’s Model of Nursing, transitioning the nurse from a novice to an expert role as a professional nurse. The program is designed to provide a smooth transition to practice for newly graduated nurses, attempting to bridge the gap between education and industry by combining practical training with classroom lessons. It provides the opportunity to work with a highly qualified nurse preceptor, peer support meetings and seven months of ongoing education, training and support.
Program highlights:
- Year long, structured residency
- One-on-one, unit-based preceptorship
- Three to six month long clinical orientation
- Individual professional development plan
- Access to a Clinical Educator
- Mentorship with a Clinical Nurse Facilitator
- Clinical classes related to nursing specialty and patient population, as well as classes such as:
- Code response
- Chest tubes
- Respiratory care
- Critical thinking/Clinical judgement
- Documentation
