What Can You Expect at Your First Primary Care Visit at GHS?

Knowing what to bring and what to expect takes some of the uncertainty out of a first appointment.

Before Your Visit

New patients can download the child or adult new patient packet and complete it ahead of time to keep check-in moving smoothly. Plan to arrive about 20 minutes before your scheduled appointment.

What to Bring

  • A valid photo ID
  • Your insurance card and co-pay
  • Any completed new patient forms, if you didn’t submit them in advance

Insurance & Financial Assistance

GHS accepts and files most insurance plans. If you’re uninsured or underinsured, sliding fee scale applications are available in English and Spanish at both clinic locations or online. Income-based discounts are offered based on family size and income.

Your Health Portal

GHS patients can access their records and manage their care through the GHS Health Portal. New patients can enroll online. The portal makes it easy to review visit summaries, track lab results, and stay connected with your care team between appointments.

Interpreter Services

Interpreter services are available by request at both locations.

What Conditions Does GHS Primary Care Treat?

GHS primary care treats acute illness, chronic conditions, preventive care, behavioral health, women’s health, and pediatrics for patients of all ages.

Acute & Everyday Care

  • Seasonal cold and flu
  • Allergic reactions
  • Strep throat and influenza
  • Minor injuries

On-site X-ray and lab services mean you can often get answers without an additional trip elsewhere.

Chronic Disease Management

  • Diabetes
  • Heart disease and hypertension
  • Asthma and COPD
  • Depression and anxiety
  • Arthritis and joint problems
  • Allergies and sinus conditions

Preventive Care

  • Annual physicals
  • Immunizations and vaccines
  • Cancer screenings
  • Nutrition counseling
  • Smoking cessation support

For patients transitioning out of a hospital stay, transitional care coordinators help bridge the gap back to outpatient primary care. Additional chronic care management support is available for qualifying Medicare patients.

Does GHS Primary Care See Kids?

Both GHS primary care locations see patients of all ages, including children from infancy through adolescence. Pediatric services include well and sick child visits, newborn care, developmental screenings, school and sports physicals, vision screenings, and ADHD evaluation and management. Same-day sick appointments are available for when kids need to be seen quickly.

GHS pediatric providers also stay current on immunization schedules, so families can keep childhood vaccines on track without needing a separate specialist. Child patient packets are available online to help new pediatric patients get registered before their first visit.

What Is GHS ExpressCare, and How Is It Different from Primary Care?

GHS ExpressCare is a walk-in clinic for non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries. In contrast, GHS primary care offices are where you establish ongoing care with a provider who knows your health history and manages it over time.

ExpressCare is co-located with Granville Primary Care at the Butner-Creedmoor location, making it a convenient option when something comes up outside of normal scheduling. It’s the right choice for urgent, one-time situations — such as a sudden fever, a minor injury, or a quick strep test.

GHS primary care offices handle preventive visits, chronic disease management, routine physicals, and specialist referrals.

Can I Access GHS Primary Care Virtually?

Yes. GHS offers telehealth appointments at both primary care locations for adults and children, with no office visit required. Telehealth visits are phone-based and available for a wide range of non-emergent conditions, including:

  • Follow-up care
  • Chronic disease check-ins (diabetes, high blood pressure, COPD)
  • Cold symptoms and seasonal allergies
  • Depression and anxiety management
  • Medication reviews

To schedule, simply call your clinic and request a telehealth slot. During your appointment, your provider will call you at your preferred number. If a prescription is needed, it will be sent electronically to the pharmacy of your choice.

Most insurance plans cover telehealth visits, though it’s worth confirming your individual plan coverage when you call. If your condition requires an in-person exam, your provider will let you know and help you get scheduled accordingly.
